When you talk about making money online, Google AdSense seems to be the easiest and by far the most popular way to make money online.
Google AdSense is a program operated by Google where a publisher or owner of a website (preferably a blog) can sign into an agreement with Google that allows them serve ads on their website or blogs and pay them based on performance.
You may wonder, what kind of ads do they place? Very simple. In the times we live in, advertising is part of every companies budget and as such google and Facebook remain the top most viable ways to get a huge reach. So the adverts placed on your blog are advert of companies who pay Google to advertise their brand. In return Google pays you a fraction of what they are being paid.
What does the term performance mean
Basically, the term performance in this context would mean the amount of people who see the adverts placed on your website or blog. Google AdSense pay publishers (the owner of a website or blog) based on the number of click visitors make on ads. This is what is called PPC, which mean Pay Per Click. There is also what is called CPC. CPC stands for Cost Per Click and it is the amount of money you are being paid per click, this price varies on a lot of factors such as location, niche and interest. Generally the Cost per click is usually around $0.07 to $0.9 per click.
So the more visitors you drive to your blog is directly proportional to the probability of you getting more clicks and the more clicks you get, the more money you make.
You must also know that you must not click on adverts on your site or tell people to click on them. If Google detects you are clicking or telling others to click on your adverts (you should know that google has the largest computing power in history and the best set of engineers in the world, you can’t be smarter than them), they will ban your website and you would be able to use the Google AdSense program again.
Steps to making money from Google AdSense
To make money with Google AdSense all you need is a blog and a Google account, so let’s me work you through the steps.
Create a blog
This is one of the basic and easiest step. If you don’t know how to build a website or blog, consider hiring someone to build it for you.
Your website should be very user friendly and not have deceptive links. Also make sure people find it extremely easy to navigate through your website pages.
Write useful and helpful contents
If your blog doesn’t have helpful contents that people would love to read, google is not going to approve your account. So do make sure you write all the articles yourself (do not engage in copy and paste). Also your articles should be properly formatted and easy to read, avoid to the barely level typographical error and poor punctuation.
Also avoid using copyrighted images on your blog. To be on the safe side, I advise you design your images yourself using Canva.
Create the necessary pages.
According to Google, the necessary page that should be on your blog include
- About us page
- Contact us page
Once that is done, make sure they are accessible from the main top menu and the footer menu.
Apply for Google AdSense
After you go up to 20 articles of high standard on your blog you can then head straight to the Google AdSense official website. After registration, you would be given a string of code to place on your website. This is to verify that you are actually the owner of the website. After doing that you will be told to wait for their reply as they would review your website to make sure it complies with the Google AdSense program policy.
If it does comply, within three weeks, you should be getting a congratulations mail from Google and if it does not comply they would reject your application and tell you to check your site and apply again.
Once you have been accepted into the program, all you need is to take the ads code from your AdSense dashboard and place it on any place you want ads to be displayed on your blog.
Now henceforth, anything someone click on those ads, you will earn some money. When you reach the $10 threshold, you will be asked to upload some of your documents, to verify your profile for payment.
Typically, you are paid every month end if you exceed the $100 mark and payment is being made via bank deposit.
